Santa Fe’s Labor Day Happenings

Posted by bishopslodgemgr in Happenings

Labor Day weekend is almost here, which means more time for you to spend at the Bishop’s Lodge. Beyond all of the amazing activities and vacation packages offered by us here at Bishop’s Lodge, there are a number of events going here in Santa Fe.

For those looking to experience the true Santa Fe, The Fiesta Fine Arts and Crafts Market is for you. Visitors will be submersed in culture as they navigate through local artists booths and art shows in a distinctive open-air market. Feel, smell, and love Santa Fe’s deep rooted Spanish heritage, taste the local cuisine, and watch native performances. Even take a one-of-a-kind treasure home to cherish for years to come. The event will take place in downtown Santa Fe from Saturday, August 31 at 9:00 a.m. until Monday, September 2 at 5:00 p.m.! For more information please visit www.santafefiesta.org or email: info@santafefiesta.org. “Viva la Fiesta”!

Before or after the little cowboys and cowgirls attend Camp Appaloosa here on the ranch, make sure to saddle up and ride over to The Fiesta de Los Niños. This children’s celebration will take place alongside The Fiesta Fine Arts and Crafts Market, offering more fun for the whole family. The kids will get to experience games, crafts, and entertainment all with a distinctive Santa Fe twist. Adult admittance is only $8 and children attend free. The Fiesta de Los Ninos will take place at El Rancho De Las Golondrinas, Santa Fe’s Premier Living History Museum. For more information please visit www.golondrinas.org.

There’s no better way to spend the last days of summer than at Bishop’s Lodge. This weekend only, our Family Package includes 30% off rates, 10% off Camp Appaloosa for the kids, and a waived resort fee. Get ready for an adventure!

They are truly explorations into understanding your team’s dynamics. Jade’s ability to custom design a team building program, either a Drum & Journey Circle or her many experiential team building activities offers your group the most effective and FUN team building experience available. Jade’s team has over 20 years experience leading experiential programs.

The outdoor experiential learning takes individuals and teams out of their comfort zones asking them to go beyond their perceived limitations by challenging their ingrained thinking and behaviors.

There are numerous ways to get to what could be called a ‘teachable moment’ by replicating life and the work environment, using the outcomes of the lessons as a foundation for self reflection and honest discussion, which is supported by the curriculum and a philosophy that teaches life skills.

Programs are custom designed to provide unique team experiences. We work directly with each client to develop a program consistent with the client’s objectives and desired outcomes.

Jade says, “I see each family, group and corporation as an intricate web of people and paradigms. Each person has his place on the web in which to be and to function and hold integrity to fortify the web.”

Drumming sessions are open to all ages, and require no prior drum experience to participate. Let the rhythmic tones teach you about personal connections and teamwork as you work together to create an experience larger than yourself. Reserve your seat today for an experience you will never forget!

Meet Our Horses – Toby Joe

Posted by bishopslodgemgr in Our Horses

Howdy, y’all! I’m Toby Joe. I’m a12 year-old Paint Gelding – a Tri-Paint to some because I have brown, black and white on my coat. I’m mostly white, although I sometimes think it looks like I dipped my head in a bucket of chocolate.

I’ve been giving rides for years now and it’s something I really enjoy. I especially like giving kids rides, and it seems they like me, too. I’m always excited to start my day so I’m often the first one out of the gate in the morning.

When I’m not giving rides, you can catch me listening to my favorite song, White Horse by Taylor Swift. I’m convinced she’s talking about me!

If you’re an intermediate rider looking for an adventure, call my friends at (505) 819-4013 to schedule a ride with me!

Meet our Horses – Preacher

Posted by bishopslodgemgr in Our Horses

Howdy partner! My name is Preacher and I am an 18 year-old, Sorrel Thoroughbred Gelding, just like my best friend, Prince. I take riders of any experience level out on the lovely trails here at Bishop’s Lodge. People always tell me I’m easy to get along with, so I’m sure you and I would kick it off just nicely!

Unlike those horses that run in the Kentucky Derby, I’m a nice, mellow, gentle giant of a horse. I’m not one for competition, I’d much rather take it easy and enjoy the scenic views around my home here on the ranch.

I also love to take little pony naps when I am by the mounting block, there’s always enough time in the day for a little relaxing! You know what they say, “life’s about taking ‘you’ time and enjoying the little things”, or the big things like me!

Next time you’re looking to spend some “you” time,  give my friends at the stables a call and I’ll show you around Bishop’s Lodge! I hope to see ya’ll soon!

Meet our Activities Director

Posted by bishopslodgemgr in Buckaroos

An interview with Bishop’s Lodge Activities Director Morgan Dawson

Keeping the young cowboys and cowgirls active always a fun challenge. Whether it’s morning, parents, kids will stay in the saddle with Camp Appaloosa. We recently sat down with our new Activities Coordinator Morgan to find out which activities will keep the buckaroos busy this summer.

Having past experience as a student activities coordinator at Santa Fe University of Art and Design, Morgan was more than ready to become a member of the Bishop’s Lodge team. Drawn to the ranch’s breathtaking scenery, award winning reputation, and amazing visitors, Morgan was excited to share her creative ideas for new activities.

When asked what activities she looked forward to at Camp Appaloosa, Morgan was excited in telling us how she loved, “Tastefully Terrific Day, where campers decorate freshly baked cookies, make their own menus, as well as make personalized chef hats.” She continued, “our new Safari Day, where campers and counselors go on a breathtaking hike throughout the Santa Fe countryside is also a total blast.”

Morgan has done a wonderful job in organizing amazing activities such as Blastoff Day. Blastoff Day is a one day activity where campers can create and color their own zing wing glider, along with a moon place mat, then go outside and fly their creations. Toward the end of the day, campers will be divided into two teams, Aliens vs. Astronauts, to play against each other in a game of ‘capture the flag’ with water balloons!

You would think one of Morgan’s most favorite and memorable activities would be of the three listed above, but she points out that her most memorable activity was a recent carnival the ranch put on. “It was amazing and the kids had so much fun throughout the day.”

“Don’t delay in joining in the experience! You can sign up the day of for our camps – you can even make special arrangements for afternoon sessions,” said Morgan. “The counselors are astounding at making every kid feel like the day is all about him or her. If all the kids want to go on a hike instead of swimming, we will. Remember its all about creating memories, and having fun!”

Morgan can be found at Bishop’s Lodge all summer, so come on by or give her a call at 505-992-3605 to find out how you can reserve your child’s adventure at Bishop Lodge!

5 Tips for Planning an Outdoor Wedding

Posted by bishopslodgemgr in Happenings

Some of the best weddings we’ve hosted here at Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort and Spa have been in the beautiful natural setting of our outdoor space. Nestled in a tranquil valley at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, our secluded resort surrounds you with 450 acres of rolling hills and towering cottonwood trees.  If you’re considering an outdoor wedding here are 5 planning tips:

  1. Choose Timing:  Time of year and time of day are very important considerations when planning an outdoor wedding. Consult the Farmer’s Almanac (www.farmersalmanac.com) and research weather for your location so you can choose a date that corresponds with warm weather.  Most outdoor weddings at Bishop’s Lodge take place from late-spring through the fall. Also, think about the time of day – depending on the month, morning weddings can be too cool, while during the heat of the summer, a mid-day wedding can be too hot. Plan accordingly.
  2. Plan for Outdoor Elements:  Never assume that the weather will be perfect because it’s your wedding day. Depending on your location and time of year, you could experience unseasonable temperatures (too hot or too cold) or there could be rain. Not having an alternate plan has forced many couples to postpone their nuptials. At Bishop’s Lodge we can assist in providing options so you don’t have to worry if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate on you big day.
  3. Your Décor:  Outdoor weddings are a great opportunity to scale back your decor budget since you’re already in a fabulous setting. Leverage the natural settings and lush green surroundings of Bishop’s Lodge.
  4. Prepare Your Guests: You should consider letting your guests know that your big event will take place outside so they can be prepared for the weather and the outdoor elements . This will help guests make decisions on attire (eg. bringing a sweater or sun hat) and sunscreen.
  5. Hire a Good Wedding Planner:  There are so many details to think about when planning your big day. Having a professional wedding coordinator can help ease your stress. Our professional staff will assist you in planning every last detail of your New Mexico wedding celebration – from menu selection and seating plans to photographers, decorations, and audiovisual needs.

So whether you’re planning an intimate ceremony for twenty in Bishop Lamy’s Chapel or a grand sunset reception for 350 on the Mesa Vista overlook, your special day will be celebrated with our distinct, elegant style. We’ll make it easy for you to have your outdoor wedding at Bishop’s Lodge Ranch Resort.
